Air Filters
There are two types of air filters in most if not all vehicle. One is for the engine, and the other is for the cabin of your car, truck, or SUV. Both are designed to filtrate airborne contaminants before entering your engine or the heating and cooling systems of your vehicle.
Sooner or later, though, these filters become clogged and restrict the necessary airflow your car needs to function and stay cool. If gone unchecked for too long, your vehicle may experience problems that could have easily been avoided.
Some instances that you may experience when dealing with an old or clogged filter are:
- A lit check engine light
- A dirty, blocked, or worn-out filter
- Unclean smells in the cabin
- Unfamiliar engine noises
- Engine misfires
- Loss of engine power
- Weak throttle response when accelerating
- Falling fuel economy
- Increase in emissions
Shall you experience any of these complications, it's best to do a visual inspection and follow through with a filter replacement. Usually, air filter replacements are done every 12,000 to 15,000 miles depending on your vehicle and the outside elements you drive through. If you drive somewhere with frequent dust or dirt, you may require an earlier replacement.
